A Message About Healing in 1 Timothy 5:23

Healing is a complex issue, and attempts to minimize its complexity lead to error. This 1-minute devotion contains an important passage to set some of the errors straight. #BIbleLoveNotes #Bible #Healing

God is a divine healer. I’ve personally experienced His healing power.

But Scripture doesn’t promise every Christian will be healed of every illness here on earth.

For example, in 1 Timothy 5:23 Paul says to Timothy, "Stop drinking only water, and use a little wine because of your stomach and your frequent illnesses."

This one-sentence word of advice was divinely inspired and preserved throughout history for the benefit of New Testament Christians.

This passage doesn't teach that all Christians with stomach problems should drink wine instead of asking for healing, but it teaches that some godly people with faith will still have health problems here on earth.(1)

Paul was an apostle and a divinely inspired teacher, well known for rebuking error without fear of man.

Yet Paul did not tell Timothy he would be healed if he had more faith. In fact, he commended Timothy's faith and character (Philippians 2:19-22; 2 Timothy 1:5).

When we combine all Scripture passages on earthly healing, we can only conclude that God knows what He's doing but there's some mystery involved.

(1) Just as this passage does not tell the whole story on healing, neither does any other passage. To have an accurate view of healing, we must know what the whole Bible teaches, not just Pieces Parts.
